Opticianry

General Information

The purpose of the program is to train opticians, who are visual health personnel who ensure the selection of visual aids, their preparation in accordance with the specified and determined measurements and their adaptation to the patient in accordance with the prescription prepared by the authorized specialist physician. Opticians consist of individuals who have received training at a level where they can read prescriptions created for the correction and elimination of visual impairments, supply optical aids and provide special applications to the patient in line with the prescription.

Our department has an optician laboratory equipped with machinery and equipment where practical training is carried out, and an optical store example where all types of eyeglass lenses and frames are available.

The materials used in the practical training in the program are provided with the support of professional non-governmental organizations and manufacturers-suppliers from the optical sector. Technical trips are organized to eyeglass lens factories in order to establish connections with the sector and increase product knowledge of the students, and they are provided with the information provided by experts in their fields.

Job Opportunities

Graduates who successfully complete the two-year optician training are given the title of optician. Graduates of the program,. Opticians have a wide range of work opportunities in terms of job opportunities. Graduates can work in optical stores, eyeglass, lens and glass companies, hospitals, and eye health-related laboratory areas. In addition, individuals who graduate from the Opticians department have the authority to open their own optical stores if they wish. Since it is mandatory to have opticians in optical stores, individuals who graduate from the Opticians department stand out in this sector. Opticians’ salaries may also vary depending on the place of work and the qualifications possessed. It is very important for opticians to know a foreign language, preferably English, to have sufficient proficiency. Opticians also have the opportunity to work abroad. Depending on the need, job opportunities for candidates who graduate from this department also increase.

They can complete their undergraduate degrees in Physics, Physics Engineering and Optics and Acoustic Engineering departments with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).
