Nursing Doctoral Program

General Information

The Nursing Doctorate Program is an important step on the way to becoming a faculty member, providing the training of nurses who create scientific paradigms and conduct research activities that will develop the scientific infrastructure of the profession. The Nursing Doctorate Program aims to train nurses of world standards who can think critically in the fields of education, research, practice and management, who can develop new approaches to solve problems, who aim to go beyond the existing boundaries of knowledge, who can analyze and synthesize complex and conflicting ideas to redefine knowledge, who can contribute to the development of practice-based research methods by combining research and development methods, who can test the effectiveness of nursing models in the management of the care of individuals with health problems, who can put new paradigms into practice by showing appropriate evidence, who are sensitive to ethical dilemmas and value conflicts and who can produce appropriate solutions.

Candidates who enroll in the Nursing Doctorate program can take courses related to the nursing field in which they have completed their master’s degree (principles of nursing, internal medicine nursing, surgical diseases nursing, women’s health and diseases nursing, child health and diseases nursing, mental health and diseases nursing, public health nursing and nursing management) in addition to the compulsory courses they must take. The duration of completing the Nursing Doctorate program is four academic years (eight academic semesters) starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program they are registered are given for students accepted with a thesis master’s degree, and the maximum completion period is six academic years (twelve academic semesters). For students with a master’s degree, the program consists of 240 ECTS credits, provided that one academic year is not less than 60 ECTS. Students who successfully complete the course load, pass the proficiency exam and thesis defense exam gain the right to graduate.

Job Opportunities

Graduates of the program can work as clinicians, researchers and educators with a doctorate degree in public and private institutions, as well as continue their academic careers as faculty members at universities.
