English Preparation School (ENGLISH)

General Information

The language of instruction for many departments and programs at Cyprus Science University is English. In order for students to follow the courses effectively, their English language skills must be at a certain level. In this context, an exemption and level determination exam is administered to all students at the beginning of each academic year. As a result of the exam, students whose English language skills are not sufficient to understand the courses in associate or undergraduate programs participate in the English Preparatory Program to improve their language skills. The English Preparatory Program at Cyprus Science University provides English language education to approximately 500 students each year before they start their first semester at their faculties.

The English Preparatory Program aims to bring its students to a level where they can pursue advanced academic studies. This program is offered by a well-educated, experienced and student-oriented faculty using modern educational methods. The main goal of the program is to equip students with the language skills that will enable them to express themselves fluently in English in both their academic and social lives.

The aim of the English Preparatory Program is to provide students with the necessary language skills to be successful in their academic lives and to express themselves in various environments where English is used as a means of communication.

Considering that knowing English is as important as a university degree today, our English Preparatory Program offers students an important opportunity. We enjoy teaching and working with our students in this program.

Structure of The Program

Our English Preparatory Program consists of four courses, each lasting seven weeks, and five different language levels. Each course is called a ‘Track’. Students enrolled in our university’s English language programs are first subjected to the English Placement Exam (CSUEPE). Students who score at levels A1, A2 and B1 are placed in appropriate level courses at the English Preparatory School. Students who score at level B2 are enrolled in the programs of their choice at their faculties.

Class Attendance

Students of the School of Foreign Languages English Preparatory School are required to attend 85% of the classes at each level. It is the responsibility of the students to follow the attendance information updated via KIUS at each level transition. If the absence rate is at most 20% at the end of the course, students cannot take the final exam (Level Exam) and must repeat the 7-week course. Students who do not attend the class for any reason or leave the class before the end of the course are not included in the attendance. Since the attendance process will be applied in the same way, if there is any change in the course schedule or if a make-up lesson needs to be held outside of normal class hours, students must comply with the announced days and times.
